2013

This year our crop will be Oats, the heavy wet weather has meant that we have planted the crop later than expected. The crops is looking good with all the sunshine we recently had. The Orchard was pruned earlier this year and developing nicely without much pest infestation.

2012

A successful wheat harvest against a climate of poor weather saw higher tonnage prices of wheat for poorer quality yields.

'UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged nations to seize an "historic opportunity to revitalise agriculture" as a way of tackling the food crisis'.

Often we see agricultural land left abandoned and as a result the UK is reliant more and more upon foreign imports. As the price of oil soars and inflation and agraflation gather pace the UK put itself in an ever more difficult position to feed our population in the future. 'Orchard News'

Orchard news - The orchard is growing well, current inspection indicates that all trees are healthy and have blossomed. The ecosystem is starting to develop with honey bees, lady birds, ants and aphids taking an active role. A decision whether to make hay for sileage from the orchard field or just to top the field will shortly take place.

Orchard news - The heavy snow and cold frost caused some damage to the new trees. Better weather conditions have helped the trees fight back and a current inspection indicates that all trees are doing well.

'I get by with a little help from my friends'

Einstein once said that if honey bees were to become extinct then human civilisation would cease to exist within 8 years. We do not know whether he is right but we do know that our honey bees are in real danger for a number of reasons. Apart from the threat of disease and apparently mobile phones the number of orchards in England has reduced dramatically. This can only spell bad news for our very special friends.
