Pramoni Farm

Pramoni Farm is an innovative agricultural enterprise. Certification to the Red Tractor Farm Assurance Combinable Crops and sugar beet scheme  demonstrates that it meets the highest standards of production and nationally agreed levels of best agricultural practice. As a member of the grain co-operative Weald Granary and parent company Openfield we supply arable produce for UK's daily  bread, beer, porridge amongst other things that is used by well know companies such as Sainsbury's, Molson Coors and Warburtons. In addition our new hand planted Orchard is bringing back the great British apple using traditional farming methods. This means less pesticides, bigger trees in wider spaces and juicer and healthier fruit Modern farming methods often mean more intensive farming, smaller trees, the use of more fertilisers, pesticides and less tasty fruit.

Brogdale Horticultural Trust is home to the National Fruit Collections, the largest collection of varieties of fruit trees in the world. Over 2,300 different varieties of apple, 550 of pear, 350 of plum, 220 of cherry, 320 varieties of bush fruits, as well as smaller collections of nuts & vines.

Pramoni Farm worked under the guidance from Brogdale and planted over 480 fruit trees specially chosen for the farm. The heavier clay soil will add a distinct flavour.

Right from the very beginning we have been actively engaged in running the farm and carrying out agricultural duties such as ploughing, rotavating, topping grass, ditch and land maintenance etc. in line with our commitment to enagage local people and invest on the rural economy, local agricultural providers are used from time to time to help grow and harvest the crops. This special relationship ensures that we remain the ley decision maker in offering the best quality, sustainability and efficiency that exceeds the membership and certification as a British approved Red Tractor Farm.

'As I walked through this magnifcent orchard I saw for the first time a honey bee in this once desolate land'. Apple trees start to blossom, May 2008.

A new beginning - As a result of this new era we hope to protect and preserve our endangered native ladybirds and honey bees whilst producing excellent fruit. Wheat, Barley, Oats and orchards add serious beauty to the countryside. Add the changing weather and four seasons and the result is highly dramatic. Our future plans to grow something more unique such as chilli may come true soon as we look for modern, innovative ways using the latest technology to grow our crops (all photos on this site taken on the farm)

Many thanks to all the wonderful local people, businesses and farmers who have encouraged, helped and believed in us.

Land improvements - Over 560 metres of traditional hedge laying, clearing and rebuilding neglected ditches, restoring our agricultural buildings for agricultural use, hedge cutting, professionally clearing serious weeds such as Japanese Knotweed, Ragwort. This has helped drianage and local flood defences protecting lcoal communities and wildlife.

The farm operated it's own machinery and maintains the farm under various schemes and is now a member of 'Natural England's' ELS scheme and adopts compliance under the European Single Farm Payment Scheme.
